Finn's 'New York Yankees' Bar Mitzvah

Take me out to the ballgame! Finn’s New York Yankees-themed bar mitzvah felt like watching the game from box seats. Slightly refined for the grownups, airily detailed, and with plenty of fun for the kids, the design came together seamlessly. Finn and his friends had a ball playing with the adorable (and scrumptious!) cuisine from Paula Le Duc, playing arcade games, and of course, celebrating all things Finn.

Hosted at Terra Gallery in San Francisco, we met the spacious, window-filled room and courtyard with an updated classic design and game arcade. To tie in the Big Apple’s big blue, we chose a palette comprised of rich navy blue with crisp white accents. We added Midcentury Modern furnishings to offset the inherently classic look, without forgoing its equally inherent elegance. Yankee signs could be seen from every angle, which not only added to the ballpark feel but a familiarity and thus, warmth. When Finn’s family showed a video they had compiled for him, everyone in the room was enchanted by Finn, his life, and the roles they’ve played in it. There was a sense of gratitude in their eyes which never left the screen, except to briefly meet another loved one’s eyes.

Grownups then enjoyed a beautiful multi-course meal, while Finn and his friends crafted their own creations at the retro-meets-modern hamburger sliders & mac n cheese bar. They also enjoyed French fries in Yankees-branded cones they didn’t have to yell at the hot dog man for, along with a New York style soda fountain and donut bar. Big League Chew and ballpark style hot pretzels were part of the take home goodies. Young ones bounced freely from table to table, with plenty of fun on the dance floor, delighted by the bit of freedom that comes with large, family gatherings. Their smiles, along with all of the lovely moments from this event were captured by the supremely talented Page Bertelsen. It’s safe to say Finn’s bar mitzvah was a home run.
